# AI Data Use Addendum

## Overview

This addendum describes how Snack uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies, and the data practices associated with these features. This document is intended to supplement Snack's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

## AI-Powered Features

Snack uses AI to provide the following features:

1. **Automatic Transcription**: Video content is transcribed using speech-to-text technology to generate captions and searchable text.

2. **Content Summarization**: AI generates summaries of video content to help viewers quickly understand the material.

3. **Quiz Generation**: AI creates comprehension quizzes based on video content to support learning outcomes.

4. **Smart Search**: AI-powered search helps users find relevant content across their library.

## Data Processing Practices

### Retention & Provider Controls

Snack documents AI retention and provider behavior by workflow:

- **ZDR on Eligible Workflows**: Where a workflow is configured with a Zero Data Retention (ZDR) capable provider path, request data is deleted immediately after processing.
- **Workflow-Dependent Provider Terms**: Some workflows use provider/model configurations that follow the configured provider path for that feature.
- **Organization Controls**: Workspace admins can manage AI improvement opt-in, human review, and transcript retention settings.
- **K-12 Restrictions**: AI improvement is disabled for K-12 organizations.

### Processing Flow

1. Content is prepared on Snack's secure servers
2. Only necessary data (transcript text, not video files) is sent to AI providers
3. AI processing occurs through the configured provider path, with ZDR enabled where supported
4. Results are returned to Snack
5. Retention and provider handling follow the active workflow configuration

## Third-Party AI Providers

Snack uses the following AI subprocessors:

## K-12 Protections

For K-12 educational organizations:

- **AI Training Disabled**: AI model improvement is permanently disabled and cannot be enabled.
- **Enhanced Review Controls**: Per-ticket approval required for any human review of content.
- **Database Enforcement**: Technical controls prevent accidental or unauthorized changes to privacy settings.

## Your Controls

Organization administrators can manage AI data usage through the Data Controls settings:

- **AI Improvement Opt-In**: Control whether anonymized data can be used to improve AI models on eligible non-K-12 workflows.
- **Human Review**: Control whether Snack staff can view content for support purposes.
- **Retention Policy**: Set transcript data retention periods.

## Compliance

Snack's AI data practices are designed to support compliance with:

- FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
- COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act)
- State student data privacy laws
- GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)
